Living in Crested Butte
The mountains around Crested Butte make for a year round paradise, especially for the outdoor enthusiast. Viewed from any of the surrounding peaks, or the chair lift on Crested Butte Mountain, Crested Butte sits in a valley on the edge of a wild playground: three wilderness areas, more than a million acres of National Forest, and peaks towering up to 14,000 feet. Time spent outside makes you feel better on the inside, and Crested Butte’s endless acres offer an endless supply of outdoor pursuits: • Robert Trent Jones II Championship Golf Course • Mountain Biking • Horseback Riding • Fly Fishing • Hiking & Backpacking • Cross Country Skiing • Snowmobiling • World Class Alpine Skiing

In the middle of the recreational wonderland sits the town of Crested Butte, designated a National Historic District. Built in the mining boom of the late 19th century, our town runs thick with history -- and remains an authentic and real town, something that can’t be bought or built at any other ski town. Charming facades line the streets of Crested Butte with block after block of quaint shops, restaurants and galleries. Kids ride their bikes to school, the local speed limit is 15 MPH, and the nearest stop light is on the other end of the valley, 30 miles away.
